Therefore, the effectively used wavelength range of an infrared sensor is only between 2 and 14 µm, with few exceptions. InfraTec’s infrared sensors are equipped with a special absorbent black layer and can therefore be used as extensive, stable, long-term receivers for UV radiation (for instance 193 nm), or with a special coating also for THz radiation in the range from 100 µm to 1 mm.

An IR Sensor for Low- and High-Temperature Applications

Depending on the basic physical principle, an IR sensor can either be applied in a wide temperature range without cooling (so-called thermal infrared sensors) or have to be cooled or thermally stabilised in order to achieve high resolutions (semiconductor resistors or diodes).

An InfraTec IR sensor is a thermal detector, which are ideally applied at temperatures of -55 ... +105 °C. The lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) pyroelectric sensor element has a Curie temperature of 620 °C, which would allow for an even higher operating temperature. The temperature-limiting elements of the infrared detector are the infrared window and filter as well as the integrated, extremely noise- and stray-current-reduced preamplifier technology.
